Dear Teddy Friends,
Happy Teddy Tales Tuesday, everyone!
Oh my goodness, I am practically bursting with excitement today because I get to tell you all about my latest grand adventure with Mummy just over a week ago! We went to The Netherlands, which is a place that is incredibly close to our hearts. It is actually my birthplace, so it always feels like home to me! Mummy makes it a point that we go because deep down in her heart she feels that it's her second home too.
We had been planning this beautiful trip for months, but there was one thing we weren't prepared for at all: a giant heatwave! Now, we are totally used to the scorching heat back home in Malta, but the Dutch houses and streets aren't built for it like we are. It got so hot that Mummy’s highly anticipated dollhouse fair actually got cancelled! You can imagine my poor mummy.
But my Mummy is a true adventurer, and we didn't let that spoil our fun. We made the absolute best of it. We visited a breath-taking Botanic Garden in Rotterdam filled with the most beautiful trees and flowers. We also got to visit Mummy's absolute favourite historical towns, Gouda and Delft.
But do you want to hear the absolute best part of the whole weekend? We added someone brand new to our Teddy Bear Family!
While we were in Rotterdam, we stepped into a sweet toy shop, and Mummy stopped dead in her tracks at the teddy bear section. She completely froze, a small smile appearing on her lips and a magical twinkle in her eye. She didn't blink, and she didn't move. She just whispered one magical word: "Steiff."
Oh my gosh, my little stuffing heart skipped a beat! Finally, I was standing in a shop that actually had real Steiff bears! There were so many different ones, but I just knew Mummy would spot the special one. I watched her take them all in, scanning their faces and expressions. I always know that she has a superpower: she just knows who speaks directly to her heart. It's something that has always fascinated me about her.
Suddenly, I saw mummy’s smile grow, and the little dimple on her face got deeper.
"Did you find him, Mummy? Did you? Who is it?" I was thinking.
She reached out her hand and picked up a gorgeous, light-colored bear who looks a bit like me! He has the most beautiful curly fur, a wonderfully cute face, and he is so, so soft.
"It's Luca," Mummy smiled.
The shop lady kindly offered a paper bag, but Mami immediately shook her head. "No, Luca will be carried." You see, my Mami would never put any of us teddy bears in a paper bag! So, we proudly marched out of the shop together, holding our newest family member.
Luca is very similar to our big brother Elmar, but as we drove off, I could see exactly what Mummy fell in love with. He has the sweetest soul. During the drive, I officially welcomed him to the family and told him all about his new life with the other teddies and dollshouses.
It was an amazing weekend, but the night before we left, after all that heavy heat, a terrible storm arrived. Mummy had already tucked herself into bed, and Luca and I were sitting up on the shelf. Outside, the rain was pouring, and massive cracks of lightning and thunder shook the room. Both Luca and I were so scared!
Mummy saw our frightened little faces and immediately brought us both into her bed. She opened up the huge window curtains so we could watch, and we cuddled up super close to her. To make us feel brave, she explained that the storm was very close to us. She taught us a game: we had to count the seconds between the lightning flash and the rumble of thunder. She explained that the shorter the time between them, the closer the storm was!
Luca and I forgot all about being scared and started counting and counting. It turned into a wonderful game! After a while, Mummy stopped talking, which meant she had peacefully fallen asleep. I leaned over and whispered to Luca, encouraging him to cuddle right up to her, because Mami gives the absolute best hugs. He was so happy to snuggle into her arms.
The next day, it was time to leave, which is always a little bit sad. Mummy packed her big luggages, but Luca and I got the best seats in the house: we rode safely inside her handbag so we could see everything on the journey back!
Now, Luca is safely home in Malta and completely happy. He has already met our other Steiff teddies and the rest of the big dollhouse family. Welcome home, little brother Luca!
Have you ever had to brave a big thunderstorm with your favourite teddy bear?
Sending you warm cuddles and lightning-counting smiles.
That's all for today. TTFN Ta Ta For Now!
Sending you lots of Bear Hugs,
Posy xxx
